Give Credit Where Credit is Due

I am impressed. As I'm sure anyone who reads my blog can attest, I am opinionated, political, and conservative. I follow politics very closely, keep abreast on all the issues, and am one of those people that actually contact their public servants to give their opinion. I did this yesterday. I sent an email to Rep. Mark Souder, thanking him for voting against Cap & Trade. I sent emails to Sen. Evan Bayh and Sen. Dick Lugar asking them to vote against Cap & Trade. Here is a little smidgen of what Cap & Trade is. It's basically an energy tax. It is a bill that would tax people and businesses for using energy and having carbon emissions. If passed, it would cost the average American family up to $3000 a year in increased utility costs, not including the increased cost of food and materials passed on to the consumers by businesses who have to pay the tax, and the amount of businesses that may leave our country and do business on foreign soil where the tax does not exist. It is a very important piece of legislation that would have lasting affects on our nation. The rest of the world is not adopting this legislation. I agree we need to protect our environment, yet I don't believe Cap & Trade will do what it is promising to do, and there may be a better solution to this problem, without burdening the American people with a huge financial constraint. I urge you to research the issue for yourself to find out more and make up your own mind.

Anyway, I received a reply from Sen. Bayh today, and I must say I am impressed. Let me first offer this disclaimer: I did not vote for him. I disagree with almost all of his politics. However, I appreciate the timeliness of his reply and what his letter stated. He affirmed his belief that we must protect the enviroment, but he promised that he will work to find a solution that will not increase the costs to Hoosier taxpayers, workers, and businesses, and that the rest of the world must join in on this endeavor or all of our actions will be for nothing. If he believes and acts upon what he wrote, then I applaud him. I give credit where credit is due. He is promising to protect his constituents and to find a workable solution, regardless of his party affiliation. I will keep him accountable for that. I appreciate his response, his promise, and his service.
